Founded more than three decades ago by Bob McArdle and Wayne Francis, Nevele R Stud has become one of Australasia’s premier Standardbred Breeding Farms.
A chance meeting between the Tasmanian bloodstock agent and the Christchurch businessman in the early 1970’s resulted in the pair establishing the stud farm, which they named after their foundation sire Nevele Romeo, whom Bob had recently sourced from North America.
The pair’s combined stallion selection skills and business acumen soon saw the stud flourish into what it is today – one of Australasia’s foremost Standardbred breeding farms.
Both owners also independently built up successful broodmare bands of their own – Wayne under the famous Spreydon Lodge and “Franco” banner and Bob through Bromac Lodge.
Located in Prebbleton, Canterbury, Nevele R comprises over 500 acres of quality pasture – perfect for agisting mares and raising strong healthy foals on.
The Stud has been home to plenty of top stallions over the years, including the legendary Holmes Hanover (sire of the most NZ bred winners ever at over 1400), Timely Knight, El Patron, Boyden Hanover, Nero’s B B, Soky’s Atom and Falcon Seelster who’s still going strong at the venerable age of 30.
The current stallion roster features the proven sires’ Live Or Die, Badlands Hanover, McArdle and Continentalman, along with the well-credentialled young stallions’ Changeover (NZ’s highest stakes-winning entire), P-Forty Seven (Little Brown Jug winner), Lis Mara (champion US Free-for-aller who holds the record for most sub 1:48 wins) and Tintin In America (One of the fastest pacers in NZ in recent years).
Nevele R also offers breeders frozen semen from some of North America’s best ever racehorses and sires, with the likes of Muscles Yankee, Western Ideal, Artsplace and CR Commando available.
