Former kiwi colt Im Full Of Fire booked himself a spot in this weekend’s Group One New South Wales Derby with an impressive victory in the second of the qualifying heats run at Harold Park on Friday evening.

The 3yo son of Courage Under Fire was held up three back on the marker pegs for much of the race before getting clear in the last lap and running down the leaders to take a half length win over Esprit De Kayjay in the second fastest of the three qualifying heats run.

It was the colt’s 10th lifetime win, with his record now standing at 21 starts for 10 wins and 8 placings, including a Group One placing in the Tasmanian Derby earlier in the season.

Im Full Of Fire is out of the dual gaited Greener Pastures mare Greener Lady, a winner of four races trotting.

The $100,000 NSW Derby Final, won by Courage Under Fire himself back in 1999 when he swept a world record six Derbies, is scheduled for this Friday at Harold Park.
