Another former kiwi making his presence felt in the Australian open class ranks at the moment is Bold Cruiser, a 7yo gelding by Live Or Die, with the former Wayne Adam’s charge recording his biggest career-win to date when taking out the AU$70,000 Group 2 Kilmore Pacing Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Having finished fourth the previous year to Sting Lika Bee in the 3,150m event, Bold Cruiser always looked one of the main dangers to race favourite Mister Swinger despite not being much liked by punters, with the gelding showing a clear preference for longer distance races in the past. The Glenn Douglas trained runner capitalised on a great run in behind the race favourite, coming off his back in the straight to nail a game pace-making Manwarra Goforgold on the line in a near track record mile rate of 2:01.3.

It was the gelding’s 17th overall win, with the stakes money taking his lifetime earnings to almost $255,000.

Out of the Nevele R Stud owned mare Holmes Dream, Bold Cruiser was bred by Brian Fraser of Oamaru and is a half brother to last season’s Group 1 Nevele R Fillies Final winner Badlands Jewel.

Victory in the Kilmore Cup also came with the added bonus of automatic entry into next year’s $400,000 Hunter Cup at Moonee Valley on the 7th of February.
