Vintage Master wins Cane Pace

3yo Western Ideal colt Vintage Master became North America’s latest millionaire pacer courtesy of victory in the $325,000 Cane Pace at Freehold Raceway, New Jersey on September 7.

The classy Jimmy Takter colt was a cut above his rivals on Monday coasting to a five and a half length win in a new stakes record time of 1:50.8 which also equaled Art Official’s all-age record set in an elimination of the same series the previous year.

The Cane Pace is the first leg of the Triple Crown for 3yo pacers with the remaining legs the Little Brown Jug at Delaware on September 24 and the Messenger Stakes at Yonkers Raceway on November the 7th.

Vintage Master, who also won the Adios back in August, has now won the three races for $1,135,522 is stakes-money. He was also the runner-up this season in the Meadowlands Pace, the New Jersey Classic and the New Jersey Sires Stakes Championship Final.

Vintage Master is the third and best-performed foal of Artsplace mare Art’s Vintage.

Western Ideal, who currently lies second on the North American 3yo Pacing Sires list, is available this season through Nevele R for NZ$17,000 + GST.

His sire son and former champion racehorse Rocknroll Hanover is the current leading 2yo North American sire in just his debut season and is also available through the stud at a fee of US$17,000.
