A Pretty Penny

The brilliant juvenile filly Sixpence proved her deceased sire Holmes Hanover is still a force to be reckoned with when she tore away with the Listed Delightful Lady Classic at Alexandra Park on the 6th of March.

The beautifully bred Ian Dobson and Graeme Rogerson owned filly strode straight to the front in the $30,000 Cullen Breeding sponsored affair and never looked back, cruising to an easy two length victory over the promising Touch Of Rose and recording a smart 1:59.3 mile rate.

Sixpence is out of the OK Bye mare Have A Go Franco, making her a full sister to the three-time Group 1 winning filly Threepence, and a ¾ sister by blood to former NZ 3yo Pacer of the Year Franco Heir and fellow NSW Derby winner Franco Hatrick. She was bred by Peter Baillie and Eugene Storck who sold her at the 2008 Australasian Classic Sale for a cool $90,000.

Three years after his death Holmes Hanover remains popular with Australasian breeders, serving almost 60 mares in the recently completed stud season.
