Group Race double for Continentalman
It was a memorable weekend for Nevele R and its resident trotting stallion Continentalman with his progeny achieving Group Race success on both sides of the Tasman.
In NZ the promising juvenile filly Continental Auto broke through for a well deserved debut win in the Group 2 NRM Sires’ Stakes 2YO Trotters Championship after she managed to stave off the challenge of the current Harness Jewels leader The Fiery Ginga (CR Commando), who put in a phenomenal performance to feature in a photo finish after breaking at the start.
The Phil Burrows trained filly is yet another example of the highly successful Continentalman – Sundon cross, with the filly a daughter of the unraced Sundon mare Auto Bank, a half-sister to multiple 3yo stakes race winner Inda Bank and a daughter of 21 win race mare Indette.
Across the Tasman the talented 3yo Conaroyal was an easy winner of the $50,000 Group 1 Vicbred Super Series 3YO Trotters Final at Moonee Valley on Friday evening, distancing his nearest rival Down Under Muscles (Muscles Yankee) by 13.5m at the line.
It was the up-and-coming gelding’s sixth win from just nine race-day starts, with it boosting his earnings to just over $51,000.
Conaroyal is out of the one-win Armbro Aussie mare Brandi Royal who has also left the good performer Desert Chase, winner of 13 of her races during her time on the track.
Continuing the good weekend the 2yo Continentalman colt Kowhai Ford was a winner in trying conditions at Timaru on Sunday afternoon.
