Sneakyn Down Under superb in first-up win

Talented Aussie sprinter Sneakyn Down Under kicked off his new campaign with a brilliant first up win in the Group 3 $35,000 Howard Porter Memorial at Gloucester Park on Friday evening, downing Western Australian boom horse Mysta Magical Mach.

The Darren Duffy trained gelding stormed home late to take a 4.9m win over Indian Giver and red hot favourite Mysta Magical Mach, rating 1:59 on a rain affected track for the 2,130m distance.

The NZ bred 6yo gelding has now won 14 of his lifetime starts to date and more than $175,000 in stakes. Connections think pretty highly of the gelding with them hoping he will do enough in the coming months to gain a start in the $500,000 Miracle Mile in November.

Bred by Southland’s Anne and Owen Crooks, Sneakyn Down Under is out of the Tuapeka Knight mare Sneaky Peak. The mare has proven a terrific producer to date having also left the $100,000 earners Countess Kala and Sneakyn On Over.

It was a good evening for the progeny of Badlands Hanover with the former kiwi’s Bad Leroy and Scruncher also winning on the card.

In NZ the promising 4yo mare Hannah recorded her debut win at the Forbury meeting on Thursday.
