As is the case in most years, Live Or Die led the way with 13 individual winners including last season’s NZ Derby winner Captain Peacock and the six-win mare The Peace Rose whom recorded a slick 1:57.4 victory at Winton on the 29th of December. There were six first time winners, Dag Or Die, Excuse Forty Five, Forever Arma, Linel, Liveordash and Quick Reflection. The stallion’s other winners included the promising 3yo’s Magical Mel and Laughing Holme, along with the 3-win mare Flyover, Jupiter Franco and Sterling Lustre.
McArdle was also well represented in the winner’s circle with eight in total over the same period including the smart 2yo Monaghan who paced 1:59 for the mile at Central Southland Raceway on the 29th of December. Eridanus impressed at Alexandra Park on New Year’s Eve, recording his fifth lifetime win in a career best time of 1:57.2, whilst fellow 4yo Five Star Anvil appears an open class star of the future after placing in both the Waikato Flying Mile and the Manukau Summer Cup against older more seasoned rivals.
The stallion’s other winner’s over the holiday period were the debutant Addies Girl, Bakup Mac, Franco Jackson, Just On Time, McTaggart and What A Card.
Badlands Hanover sired five NZ winners in the same time frame – Escape The Fate, Flip N Nippy, Heza Trick, Pegleg Webb and Pandora’s Diamond who registered her third lifetime win with a 1:57.7 victory at Gore on the 27th of December.
Across the Tasman, Badlands’ richest son Washakie looks primed for a strong showing in this weekend’s Group 1 Fremantle Cup after equalling the track record for 2,506m at Gloucester Park on the 7th of January with a 1:56.3 mile rate. It was the four-time Grand Circuit race winner’s 31st career-win, edging his earnings ever closer to the magical million dollar mark with his prize earnings now sitting at $950,087.
There were also multiple winners for the ever-green Falcon Seelster with the smart southerner Franco Ledger recording his fifth win from just nine race-day starts, Fly The Flag winning twice over the holiday period and Texas Hold Em finding winning form again at Addington on New Year’s Eve to register his eighth lifetime win. Others winners for the sire were All About Speed, Franco Hendrix and Fuse.
The Stud’s resident trotting sire Continentalman also had his share of winners over the two and a half weeks with Chocolate Brownie recording two wins and a placing from three starts during this time, whilst Billy Ray, Castleton’s Man, Evander and The Tin Man all recorded victories.
In Australia the smart P-Forty Seven 3yo Sevenfortyseven recorded his fourth career win at the Gold Coast on January 7 after having previously rated 1.56.7 at the Gold Coast when winning prior to Christmas.
