After easing back at the start and finding a midfield spot The Bohemian was set alight with a lap to go, charging three-wide to claim the lead and draw further away from the field. Clearly tired over the final stages the talented gelding shifted in but managed to stave off the challenge of Lightening Joy and win by 4.2m.
Before being awarded the Derby the Anthony Crossland trained gelding had to survive a protest from the connections of the runner-up.
It was The Bohemian's seventh career win, taking his lifetime earnings to more than $115,000.
Bred by Margaret Townley of Christchurch, The Bohemian is the best performed foal of Sundon mare Sun Goddess.
