First NZ winner for Lis Mara
World champion pacer Lis Mara sired his first NZ winner over the weekend with the smart juvenile Seven Point One taking out an $18,000 heat of the Magness Benrow Sires Stakes 2YO Fillies Series (1,950m) at Addington Raceway on Friday evening.
The Phil Burrows trained filly had impressed in her recent trials outings and didn't let connections down on debut, storming home in the closing stages to score by a length at the finish line from Askmenow and Tandias Bromac.
The win ensured a start for the talented filly in the $170,000 Group 1 Sires Stakes 2YO Fillies Championship at Alexandra Park on May 4.
Her overall time of 2:26.8 for the 1,950m was also the fastest recorded on the night for that distance, quicker than both the 2yo colts later in the evening and the older horses.
Bred by Nevele R Stud, Seven Point One is out of a Badlands Hanover daughter of former Broodmare Excellence Award winner Port Medley.
