Scandalman takes out Newcastle Derby
Top NSW 3yo Scandalman turned the tables on Smolda in Saturday night's $20,000 Newcastle Derby with a superb last to first performance in the 2,550m feature.
Regular reinsman Jimmy Douglas was content to settle last with the well-travelled pacer before setting the colt alight at the 800m mark. The NSW colt quickly moved up to second before reeling in Smolda in the straight to score by 1.3m at the line in a smart mile rate of 1:58.4. The pair gapped the rest of the field with a further 18m back to the third place-getter Thingimajig.
The brilliant Live Or Die colt has now won 12 of his lifetime starts and just shy of $370,000 in stakes-money.
The Ian Wilson trained pacer is also the highest earning Australian 3yo to date this season.
