Lis Mara colt in 1:50

Lis Mara's North American progeny are proving to have the same blinding speed that Lis Mara himself possessed with his latest 1:50 performer the Canadian colt Thunder Steeler  who claimed the $50,000 Upper Canada Cup Consolation at Georgian Downs over the weekend.

Thunder Steeler made it a one horse affair in the Consolation, romping home to a nine and a half length victory and stopping the clocks at 1:50 flat on the 5/8-mile track.

Of interest to breeders down-under is the fact that Thunder Steeler is out of a Falcons Future (by Falcon Seelster) mare in Avacal Future.

Lis Mara's top 3yo, Mel Mara was also a gallant third in the $600,000 Upper Canada Cup Final, having drawn terribly at barrier eight over the mile. The previous weekend Mel Mara recorded a 1:49.8F win in an elim of the Series. His third placing took his earnings to $132,000.

Lis Mara's first crop of foals have now won over $1 million in stakes and 44 of his 117 foals are official race winners, 11 in 1:55 or better.

To date 83 of his foals have either raced or lined up in a qualifying trial.
