Badlands Colt Blitzes Field in Battle Of Waterloo
North America’s top 2-year-old Tarpon Hanover obliterated his rivals in the $300,000 Battle Of Waterloo Final at Grand River Raceway on August 6 setting a new stakes, track and Canadian record in the process.
The Dave Menary trained pacer was in stunning form, sweeping to the lead at the half-way mark before drawing away in the final stages to defeat the second-favourite Mach Pride by an ever increasing seven lengths at the line.
Tarpon Hanover’s time of 1:53 was a new stakes, track and Canadian half-mile track record for 2-year-old pacers, lowering the previous record set by Prodigal Seelster in 2010 by 0.4 of a second.
Tarpon Hanover is the winner of three of his four starts to date, including an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Final, and is currently the richest North American 2-year-old in 2012 with earnings of $240,350.
By Badlands Hanover, Tarpon Hanover is out of the grand producing Walton Hanover mare Tarport Herald. He is her sixth foal to earn over $200,000 in stakes-money.
Badlands Hanover is also the sire of Canada’s richest 2-year-old filly (and North America’s second overall), Love Canal, who has won three of her four starts to date for just over $101,000 in earnings.
