Money Won

1:52.6; 1:51.8pl

A winner of the PGG Wrightson Yearling Sales Series Consolation at 2, Gold Ace developed into an outstanding 3-year-old the following season, winning the Group 1 Sires Stakes Final, the Group 1 NZ Derby and the Group 1 Harness Jewels 3YO Emerald. He is the only horse to date to win all three classic race features.

Gold Ace was also victorious in the Group 2 Elsu Classic, the Group 2 Flying Stakes and the Listed Yearling Sales Series Open. All up he won 10 of his 15 starts as a 3YO and more than $500,000 in prizemoney and was subsequently voted NZ 3YO Male Pacer of the Year - ahead of the likes of Terror To Love (whom he met in six epic clashes over the course of the season, defeating him four times, dead-heating the once, and going down by a head in their only other meeting as 3-year-olds), Hands Christian, Empyrean and Major Mark.

At 4 Gold Ace travelled to Western Australia, picking up the lucrative Group 1 Golden Nugget and the Group 2 WA 4YO Championship in a hit and run campaign before returning to NZ. Such was his reputation and performance in WA that the owners of Im Themightyquinn offered $1 million to purchase the 4-year-old. Back in NZ Gold Ace won the Group 2 4YO Superstars Championship, finished a close second in the Group 1 Messenger Championship and finished third in both the Group 1 Easter Cup and Group 1 Taylor Mile.

As a 5-year-old Gold Ace added the Group 1 NZ Free-For-All in a then track record 1:52.6, the Group 2 Waikato Flying Mile and the Group 3 Canterbury Classic to his resume.

At six Gold Ace raced in Australia for leading trainer Belinda McCarthy, with the classy son of Bettor's Delight winning the Group 1 Cranbourne Pacing Cup, the Group 2 Shepparton Cup and the Group 2 Kevin Newman Cup, as well as running a massive third in the Group 1 Hunter Cup that season to Christen Me and contesting the Inter Dominion Grand Final.

Returning to NZ as a 7-year-old Gold Ace showed he was still more than competitive, winning the Group 3 Founders Cup at Alexandra Park in national record time (1:59.7 for 1700m - a mile rate of 1:53.3), the Group 3 Summer Cup (over the likes of NZ Cup runner-up Franco Nelson and Pembrook Benny) and was runner-up in a sensational 1:51.8 to Adore Me in the Sky City Flying Mile at Cambridge in January. His last start saw him finish runner-up by a neck to multiple Group 1 winner Border Control in the Group 3 Canterbury Summer Cup.

Gold Ace's oldest progeny are 4YOs in 2020-21. As March 2021 he is the sire of:

 p3, 1:56.2 - $31,557. 4 wins to date. (Art Major)

Mating Hints

A lovely correct type of medium height, Gold Ace is suitable on type for most broodmares.

In terms of his pedigree, mares by Abercrombie, No Nukes, Albatross and Falcon Seelster lines sires should all be highly suitable.

Abercrombie line stallions include Artsplace, Art Major, Albert Albert, Dream Away, Panorama, Grinfromeartoear, Artiscape, Sportswriter, Modern Art, Life Sign etc…

Gold Ace’s sire Bettor’s Delight has left some truly terrific pacers out of mares by the above sire line – Carabella, Tiger Tara, Border Control and Hug The Wind to name just a few down-under and the likes of millionaire stallion Kenneth J in the Northern Hemisphere.

No Nukes line sires should also be a great match for Gold Ace with some of Bettor’s Delight’s best down-under pacers (Beautide & Caribbean Blaster are bred on this cross as well as North America's top 3YO of 2016 Betting Line).

No Nukes stallions include Badlands Hanover, Live Or Die, Safely Kept, Village Jasper, American Ideal, Caprock, Ticket To Heaven, Union Guy etc…

Bettor’s Delight has also been very successful with Albatross line mares over the years so these could be a good match also for Gold Ace.

Albatross line sires include Holmes Hanover, B G’s Bunny, Butler B G, Soky’s Atom, Vance Hanover etc…

Down-under this cross with Bettor’s Delight has produced Adore Me, Have Faith In Me, Five Card Draw, Percy The Punter etc…

Falcon Seelster and his sire sons (McArdle, Elsu, Falcon’s Future etc…) should result in a great outcross pedigree.

The Bettor’s Delight – Direct Scooter cross has been highly successful worldwide and mares from this sire line (excluding In The Pocket mares, as Gold Ace’s dam is by In The Pocket) could work – so daughters of Christian Cullen, Courage Under Fire and Mach Three are also an option.
