Always B Mikiʻs progeny star on Queenslandʻs biggest night of racing

It was a terrific night for the stock of Always B Miki at Albion Park on Saturday evening with his progeny taking out two of the biggest feature races on the card – the Group 1 Queensland Oaks and the Listed $500,000 Protostar 2YO Slot Race.
In the $150,000 Queensland Oaks Aardie B Miki showed a sensational turn of foot in the closing stages to get up and win after being trapped three-back on the running rail and only getting clear with a little over 100m to run.
Individually timed to run her last quarter in 25.9sec, she easily picked up the leaders and went on by to score by 1.9m from Look Like Diamonds in a mile rate of 1:54.9 for the 2138m race.
It was her fourth win, having placed in a further eight of her 14 lifetime starts, and took her earnings to $152,881.
In winning, she became her sire Always B Mikiʻs ninth individual Group 1 winner in the Southern Hemisphere.
Bred by Canadian Mike Tanev, Aardie B Miki is out of the stakes performed Rocknroll Hanover mare Tatijana Bromac, making her a full sister to Aardieʻs Express who took out the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Mile at Menangle earlier in the season.
In the inaugural running of the Protostar, Fate Awaits bounced back from a somewhat disappointing last start effort in the Paleface Adios to get the better of the unbeaten Victorian colt The Highlight Reel, coming off his back to win by a half head.
His winning time of 1:50.6 is the fastest recorded by a 2-year-old pacer in Australia to date this season.
Fate Awaits has now won four of his six starts and banked a healthy $300,082 in stakes for his connections.
He is the first foal out of the Group 3 winning Art Major mare For All We Know.
Always B Miki is currently third on the Australian 2YO Pacing Sires List and fourth on the 3YO Sires Table.
