Back-to-back stakes success for daughter of Vincent
The Mark Jones trained Francent once again proved too good in the latest Canterbury mares’ feature race, scoring a gritty win in the Group 2 Mid Canterbury Owners Ladies’ Sprint Race at Ashburton on Monday afternoon.
Fresh from her last start success in the Group 2 Mares Spring Sprint Classic at Addington on the 10th of October, Francent charged to the lead off the gate and despite being clearly headed by Ruby Roe, who had sat on her back throughout, with 200m to go, fought back tenaciously to score by a head in a career best mile rate of 1:54.3 for the 1,700m sprint.
The 4-year-old daughter of Vincent has now won eight races and $140,930 in stakes earnings.
Bred by Robert Higgins, Francent is out of the Courage Under Fire mare Mary Niven.
