The highly touted Captain Crunch filly Degarmea Teale prevailed in a tight finish in the $150,000 APG Melbourne Sales Graduate 2YO Fillies Final at Melton on Saturday night.

The Emma Stewart trained youngster worked to the lead off the gate, and despite racing greenly in front, fought back gamely late in the home straight when Ride The Highs loomed up on her outside, to score by a head in a thrilling finish.

Another daughter of Captain Crunch, Alot Like Jeannie, finished third.

Degarmea Teale is now unbeaten in two race-day starts, having blazed to a 1:53.7 win on debut at Bendigo earlier in the month, and has amassed $80,700 in stakes earnings.

Bred by Ray, Anne and Neil Grubb, she is out of the unraced Artistic Fella mare Rise To The Top, a half-sister to the multiple Group 1 winner Ima Spicey Lombo and a daughter of the 2011 Australian Broodmare of the Year Sexy Lexy Whitby.

Captain Crunch
is enjoying a stellar season in Australia to date this year, and is currently second on the 2YO Pacing Sires Premiership – behind only Bettor’s Delight.
