Sons of Captain Crunch were to the fore on Bathurst Gold Crown night, with the highly promising Brooklyn Dan taking out the $100,000 Group 2 Gold Chalice for 3YO Colts and Geldings and Rewatch claiming the Gold Chalice Consolation.

Brooklyn Dan, trained by Emma Stewart, used the sprint lane to best Yottie, Hollywood Strip and Soho Charmer, who just a fortnight ago made up the trifecta in the Group 1 NSW Derby at Menangle on Miracle Mile night.

It was Brooklyn Dan’s third win from four starts this season and it saw his earnings surpass $100,000.

He is out of the Bettor’s Delight mare Eye Betta Fly.

In the Chalice Consolation, Rewatch, who was second in last year’s Group 1 Gold Crown Final, swept three wide at the top of the straight and quickly put paid to the field to score comfortably by three-quarters of a length.

It was the Brad Hewitt trained colt’s fourth career win and took his earnings to just under $70,000.

Bred by Mick Harvey, Rewatch is out of the He’s Watching mare Gotta Go Electowatch, an unraced daughter of the champion New Zealand filly Elect To Live.

Captain Crunch very nearly sired a stakes race winner in New Zealand too over the weekend, with his 2-year-old son Captain Wolf storming home from last to finish second in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes at Wyndham on Sunday afternoon.
