Meet the Team – Brett Gillan

Brett has recently joined the Nevele R  team in the role of Stallion Handler and General Stud Worker.

A farrier by trade since leaving high school, Brett has also worked as a Harness Stablehand for almost a decade in the Canterbury region – working for both Brad Mowbray and the late Murray Edmonds – where he worked with horses the calibre of the outstanding trotter Heavyweight Hero and more recently this season’s Southern Oaks winner Delightful Peg.

Brett is the second generation of his family to work at Nevele R, with his mother Justine Howard having been employed at the Stud during the 1980’s.

He is looking forward to not only working alongside our resident stallion Marcoola (pictured with Brett), but also to helping out with general stud and farm work – particularly if it involves driving the tractor.

Living on site, Brett will also be available, in addition to our vets, to help with any difficult foalings overnight.
