Sherlock impresses in Sires Stakes heat

Sherlock warmed up for this weekend’s Group 1 Northern Derby with a stylish performance in the first heat of the Sires Stakes Series at Alexandra Park on Friday evening.

Having won the Group 2 Alabar 3YO Classic a fortnight ago, Sherlock once again accounted for the country’s best 3-year-old pacers.

As he did in the Aabar Classic, the son of Vincent did it tough again in winning too.

Sitting parked for the last lap and a bit, the Mark and Nathan Purdon trained pacer dug deep in the straight to kick clear by a length from Sooner The Bettor and Merlin.

It was his fifth win from 10 starts to date and took his earnings to $112,320.

Bred by Spreydon Lodge, Sherlock is out of the American Ideal mare After Party, a full sister to the Group 1 winner Democrat Party.
