Smart son of Captain Crunch streaks to Listed win

Steam Machine, by Captain Crunch, was in a league of his own in winning the Listed Southern Stars Sales Series Final for 2-year-old pacers at Globe Derby Park on Saturday night, scoring by open lengths.

Parked throughout, Steam Machine slipped the field in the back straight the final time and careered away to win by an impressive 27.4m from the second placed Always B Miki filly Lardy Dah Lady.

It was the David Drury trained gelding’s maiden win after finishing second on debut last month in his sole other start.

Bred by Bob and Zita Maloney, Steam Machine topped the 2024 SA Southern Stars Yearling Sale when selling for $40,000.

He is out of the Group 1 winning Washington VC mare Steam Washed.
