The Captain Crunch colt Brooklyn Dan kicked off his 3-year-old campaign in style at Melton on Hunter Cup night, winning the Listed VHRC Caduceus 3YO Classic fresh up in a slick 1:53 mile rate.

The Emma Stewart trained pacer pushed through early to find the one-one spot from his second row draw and then bided his time until coming three wide at the top of the home straight, sprinting strongly to hold out his fast finishing stable-mate Knight Fury Dan by a half head at the line, with last season’s New Zealand Group 1 winner Fugitive third.

It was the lightly raced colt’s second win from five starts and took his earnings to just over $36,000.

He is out of the Bettor’s Delight mare Eye Betta Fly, making him a half brother to the Group 1 winner Eye Can Run.
