Tricky Miki reigns in WA Derby

Tricky Miki cemented himself as the best 3-year-old pacer this season in Western Australia when taking out the Group 1 WA Derby at Gloucester Park on Friday, with it adding to his growing tally of feature race wins.
Racing in the breeze for the last 1400m, the son of Always B Miki again showed a terrific turn of foot in the final stages to nab the pace making Hoppys Way in the straight and score by three-quarters of a length.
The WA Oaks winning Always B Miki filly Taking The Miki ran home nicely to finish third.
Dominant in the big age group races in the past few months, Tricky Miki has now won three Group 1 features for trainer Justin Prentice, and eight races overall for earnings of $324,450.
A $57,500 APG Perth Yearling Sale purchase, Tricky Miki was bred by Steve Johnson and is out of the Group 1 placed Modern Art mare, Harriet Elisabeth.
Always B Miki can lay claim to having the best 3-year-old pacers of either sex in Western Australia this season, with his daughter Taking The Miki victorious in the WA Oaks last month.
