A Rocknroll Dance sired the first two runners home in the novel $50,000 Group 2 Mercury80 Final, with the former kiwi pacer Yorkshire downing another New Zealand expat, Rollova, in the second running of the high octane 1200m sprint at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday.

Now trained by Kima Frenning, Yorkshire picked up his second Group race feature from just six Australian starts, with the 5-year-old slotting into the trail off the gate and dashing home powerfully up the sprint lane to comfortably hold out Rollova by a little over 2m at the line.

The win was the well-bred Yorkshire’s seventh overall and improved his lifetime earnings to $94,170.

Bred by the Hardwood Breeding Syndicate, Yorkshire is out of the Group 1 winning Christian Cullen juvenile Veste, making him a half-brother to the 2020 Group 1 NZ Sires Stakes 3YO Final winner It’s All About Faith.
