The Always B Miki filly Sylvia Hanover has stamped herself as Canada’s best 2-year-old pacing filly this season with an authoritative, stakes record performance in the $167,200 Champlain Stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday.

Parked early in the race, Sylvia Hanover took the lead by the half-way point and was simply too good for the rest of the field, drawing clear late in the straight to win by three and three-quarter lengths in a time of 1:50 and 2/5ths – bettering the previous Champlain Stakes record by 4/5ths of a second.

It was the Shawn Steacy trained filly’s fourth win from just five starts, with the filly having also won the Eternal Camnation and the Whenuwishuponastar Final in the last month for stakes earnings of a little over $200,000.

Bred by Hanover Shoe Farms, Sylvia Hanover is out of the Artiscape mare Shyaway, making her a half to the $2 million earner Western Fame.
