Always B Miki has sired his first New Zealand winner and in some style, with his daughters Montana Glory and Miki Montana filling the top two spots in a heat of the NZ Sires Stakes 2YO Fillies Series at Alexandra Park on Friday.

The Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan trained Montana Glory couldn’t have been more impressive in winning.

Last with 200m to go, Montana Glory showed a stunning turn of foot to storm home and win going away by a length and a quarter in a mile rate of 1:55.5 for the 1,700m trip. (Watch replay)

Her stable mate Miki Montana impressed too for second, sticking on well at the finish after working forward to sit parked mid race.

Bred by Alabar NZ’s Graeme Henley, along with Ethan and Tate Henley, Miki Montana is the first foal of the unraced Mach Three mare Pacific Dream, a half-sister to the Group 1 juvenile winner and Auckland Cup runner-up Hug The Wind.
