The first crop progeny of Captain Crunch were in demand at the APG Gold Coast Yearling Sale yesterday, with the 2018 US 2YO Pacing Colt of the Year siring not only the sales topper, but also finishing the sale as the leading sire by average.

The top lot by Captain Crunch, and the overall highest priced yearling of the sale, was a colt out of Soul Sister, a Presidential Ball half-sister to the NZ 3YO Pacing Filly of the Year Carabella.

Consigned by Goldenview, the colt was sold for $100,000 to Norm Jenkin.

Captain Crunch had three lots in total entered in the sale, with a pair of fillies also selling for $37,000 and $40,000, giving him an impressive overall average of $59,000 for the sale.

The sole Always B Miki representative, a colt out of the Big Jim mare Bootleggin Beverly, also made good money, selling for $62,000.

Captain Crunch has a strong draft at the next Australasian sale – the NZB National Yearling Sale in a month’s time, with 11 yearlings entered at Karaka and 44 at Christchurch.
