Captain Crunch filly claims 2YO Group Race

The Cran and Chrissie Dalgety trained The Queens Gambit was a smart winner of the Group 3 Helen Pope 2YO Fillies Classic at Ashburton Raceway on Sunday afternoon.
The daughter of Captain Crunch led throughout and was too strong for Treacherous Me in the closing stages, scoring by three-quarters of a length.
Stakes placed the previous month in the Group 2 Delightful Lady Classic, The Queen’s Gambit has now won two races and $41,562 in stakes money.
The regally bred filly is out of the stakes placed Art Major mare Gemma Mac, who is a full sister to the millionaire pacer Merlin and a half-sibling to last season’s New Zealand 2YO Pacing Filly of the Year Captains Mistress.
