First season trotting sire Father Patrick was the only stallion to bag himself a double in the six Champlain Stakes divisions for 2-year-old trotters contested at Woodbine Mohawk Park on the 30th and 31st of August.

The Jimmy Takter trained Susy was the best of the three fillies division winners, opening up a big lead mid race in the first of the $70,000 splits, to score by five and three-quarters of a length, over fellow Father Patrick filly Sisters Promise.

Her winning time of 1:55.8 was also the quickest of the fillies divisions.

Bred in the purple, Susy is out of the former US 2YO Trotting Filly of the Year Solveig (by Yankee Glide) and is half sister to the multiple Dan Patch Award winning filly Shake It Cerry.

The following day, the sole Father Patrick entrant in the boys features, Hudson River, was a comfortable winner of his division, winning by a length and three-quarters in 1:55.6.

Also trained by Jimmy Takter, Hudson River is the winner of two races and $80,114 in stakes to date.

Beautifully bred too, Hudson River is out of the former US and Canadian 3YO Trotting Filly of the Year Lantern Kronos (by Viking Kronos) and is a half brother to the millionaire square-gaiter The Bank.
