Creatine colt one of the fastest 3yo trotters of all time

Jujubee record

The Greg Wright Jr. trained Creatine colt Jujubee was one of the standout performers at yesterday’s Hambletonian meeting, smashing The Meadowlands track record for a 3yo trotting colt with a sublime 1:49 4/5 victory in the $50,000 Muscle Hill stakes.

In his first look at the roomy one-mile track, Jujubee speared to the lead off the mobile before handing up to last month’s Stanley Dancer Memorial winner, Dancinginthedark, prior to the quarter pole.

With the leading pair looking a class above their rivals, Jujubee charged off Dancinginthedark’s back on the home turn, letting down with a stunning 26 3/5 last quarter to roar past the pace-maker, who broke  under pressure, and score by three-quarters of a length at the line, with seven lengths back to the third placed horse. Jujubee’s winning time of 1:49 4/5 bettered Six Pack’s 2018 Meadowlands track record for a 3yo trotting colt of 1:50 set in the Stanley Dancer Memorial and equalled the 3yo trotters all-comers record held by Plunge Blue Chip.

His time was more than a second faster than Captain Corey’s winning Hambletonian time and almost a second faster than Manchego’s 1:50 3/5 John Cashman Memorial TVG FFA win.

Jujubee is only the third 3-year-old colt in history to trot a sub 1:50 mile, with the other two, the 2018 and 2019 US Trotting Colts of the Year, Six Pack (1:49 1/5) and Greenshoe (1:49 4/5).

Two fillies, in Plunge Blue Chip and Impinktoo have also bettered 1:50 to date.

Jujubee is currently the joint fastest trotter in North America in 2021, with the champion mare Manchego.

The incredibly consistent colt has now won 10 of his 13 starts this year, and finished runner-up in a further two.

Only once out of the money in his entire career, Jujubee’s overall record stands at 12 wins and five placings from 18 starts and stakes earnings of $173,607.

A homebred for Jon W Erdner, Jujubee is the best performed foal to date of the winning Cantab Hall mare La Cantera.

Not staked to the major races, Jujubee will now be targeted at the $253,000 Pennsylvania Sires Stakes Final at the Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono on the 4th of September.

Creatine was also represented by his first Hambletonian starter yesterday, with the Jim Campbell trained Take All Comers finishing a meritorious fifth in the $1,000,000 feature, improving his lifetime earnings to more than $280,000.
