A stunning colt by trotting sire Father Patrick has rewritten the standardbred record books on day one of the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.

Lot 44, named Maverick, became the first standardbred yearling to break the $1,000,000 mark when selling for a phenomenal $1,100,000 – the highest ever price paid for a harness racing yearling at auction.

Out of the world champion Donato Hanover mare Designed To Be, Maverick is a full brother to the current season 3-year-old superstar square-gaiter, Greenshoe – the winner of $1,016,273 in stakes with a career best mark of 1:49.8.

The standout youngster was bred by Al Libfeld and Marvin Katz and was purchased by a partnership group headed by Brad Grant and Tony Alagna.

Father Patrick enjoyed a stellar opening night at Lexington with 15 yearlings sold for a staggering average of $211,800 and a median price of $135,000.

Ten yearlings by the multiple Dan Patch Award winner sold for over $100,000 with other highlights including fillies by Mission Brief and Domestic Diva selling for $400,000 and $390,000 respectively.
