Father Patrick sired the first four runners home in the Group 2 NZ Sires Stakes 2YO Trotters Championship at Addington on Friday night, with the unbeaten filly High Energy saluting ahead of Confessional, Gold Bullion and Halberg.

In the one-one with a lap to go, the Mark Purdon and Hayden Cullen trained High Energy found herself shuffled back to fourth in the running line before launching three wide at the 600m mark.

Almost on level pegging with the leaders turning for home, High Energy sprinted home the best to score by a length and a half from a gallant Confessional, who had come from last with a round to go to sit parked.

High Energy’s winning time of 2:27.8 was a new national record for a 2-year-old trotting filly over 1980m and was just 0.1 of a second outside of Ultimate Stride’s overall age group record for the distance.

It was her second Group win of the season, and she has now won four races from four starts for earnings of $57,400

Bred by Breckon Bloodstock, she is out of the former NZ 2YO and 3YO Trotting Filly of the Year High Gait, a four-time Group 1 winning daughter of Muscles Yankee.

In a terrific result for Nevele R, the first seven runners home in the Sires Stakes Championship were by the Stud’s two trotting stallions – Father Patrick and Creatine.

Father Patrick currently leads the New Zealand 2YO Trotting Sires Premiership, with Creatine second on the table.
