Ultimate Machete has sired his first stakes winner, with his debut crop son Smooth Machete taking out the Group 3 Dandy Patch Final in dominant fashion at Hobart on Saturday night.

It was an impressive win, with Smooth Machete enduring a tough trip in the $60,000 feature for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

He raced in the breeze for the majority of the 2,090m trip, before taking charge with 500m to run and drawing clear to score by almost four lengths from the Vincent gelding Vincenzo.

It was his third win from five starts and took his earnings to $56,180.

Bred by Kelly and Mark Reggett, Smooth Machete is out of the McArdle mare Sparkling.

The two-time New Zealand Age Group Male Pacer of the Year is enjoying a strong start to his stud career, with the stallion also having produced the Group 1 placed fillies Ultimate Racy Girl and Miss Hepburn from his debut crop and siring nine individual 2-year-old winners to date.
