The Miki Taker became Always B Miki’s first Southern Hemisphere Group 1 winner when a stunning victor of the $100,000 2YO Pearl Classic at Gloucester Park on Friday evening.

The Aiden De Campo trained youngster had to do it the hard way too.

Caught wide early, The Miki Taker sat parked without cover for the entire 2,130m trip and still had the audacity to kick clear of his rivals on the home turn and win by two lengths from stablemate Floewriter.

It was The Miki Taker’s third win in just five race-day starts, with his only other outings netting two second placings, for stakes earnings to date of $82,252.

Bred by Mike and Sharon Howie, The Miki Taker is out of the race winning Art Major mare Topless Beach Girl.

Off to a terrific start with his debut Southern Hemisphere crop of 2-year-olds, Always B Miki is now the sire of 11 juvenile winners to date in 2021, including three at Group level and two Group 1 runners-up.
