Nathan Street became the first Group 1 winner for pacing great Lazarus when he was victorious in the $150,000 NSW Breeders Challenge 2YO Colts and Geldings Final at Menangle on Sunday afternoon.

The race favourite, Nathan Street (pictured) comfortably collared the APG Gold Bullion winner War Dan Buddy in the straight to score by 3.8 metres, stopping the clock in a scintillating 1:50.5 – the fastest time by a 2-year-old male pacer down-under this year and just 0.2 seconds outside of Bar Room Bantaʻs Australasian record.

From Lazarusʻ debut crop, Nathan Street improved his record to four wins from seven starts and took his stakes earnings to $123,359.

Bred by Redbank Lodge Standardbreds, he is out of the Somebeachsomewhere mare Lettucesomewhere, a five times winning daughter of the 2009 Group 1 NSW Breeders Challenge 3YO Fillies Final winner New York Fashion.

Lazarus is off to a terrific start from small numbers in the Southern Hemisphere, with his 18 Australian 2-year-old starters to date also including the Group 2 winner Sir Knight, the Group 1 runner-up Grevis and the Group 2 placed Stylish Lazarus.

With 72% winners to starters and his progeny having earned $425,000 in stakes this season, Lazarus is currently Australiaʻs leading first season sire.
