JOB VACANCY - ASSISTANT STUD MANAGER

Nevele R Stud is a leading standardbred horse stud situated on the outskirts of Christchurch.

We are seeking a passionate and highly motivated individual for the role of Assistant Stud Manager.

Reporting to the Stud Manager, this is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Nevele R team in a senior role. 


Key Responsibilities

  • The day-to-day care of bloodstock, ensuring the highest industry standards are applied to their safety and well-being at all times
  • Assisting with mare reproductive work, as well as the care of mares and their offspring post foaling
  • Assisting with foal watch, foaling procedures, and weaning
  • Assisting in the education and preparation of yearlings for the national sales
  • Carrying out horse feeding regimes, including making feeds, feeding out, and cleaning feeders and troughs
  • Assisting in the record keeping of horse movements and daily worksheets
  • Handling of stallions as required, including at collection time (training will be provided)
  • Maintaining and adhering to the stud’s Health and Safety protocols
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by the Stud Manager

Requirements

  • Excellent, and demonstrable, horse handling skills across broodmares, foals and/or yearlings, and the confidence and capability to be able to handle stallions
  • Foaling experience is preferred but not essential (training will be provided)
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to teach others and upskill less experienced staff
  • Be able to work both in a team and individually
  • Have the confidence and aptitude to be able to lead a team and make decisions when the Stud Manager is away; be able to use your own initiative
  • Professional personal presentation and attention to detail
  • Must be physically fit, reliable, and adaptable with a willingness to learn
  • Have a mature and responsible work attitude
  • Basic computer skills are essential for this role
