Meant To Be takes out Harness Million 3YO Trot

The Barry Purdon and Scott Phelan trained Meant To Be opened his 3-year-old campaign in the same fashion as he ended his juvenile season last year, with a dominant win in the Listed $75,000 NZB Harness Million 3YO Trot at Alexandra Park on Friday night.
The two-time Group 1 winning son of Father Patrick strolled to the lead with a mile to go and once in front always looked to have the race in his safe keeping, trotting home strongly to score by two and half lengths from his stablemate and fellow son of Father Patrick, Higher Power.
Unbeaten in his last six starts, Meant To Be has now won seven races, including last season’s Harness Million 2YO Trot, and has banked $290,346 in stakes earnings.
Bred by Breckon Farms Ltd, the 2024 NZ 2YO Male Trotter of the Year is out of the New Zealand Trotting Derby winning Muscle Hill mare Luby Lou.
