The Justin Prentice trained Tricky Miki picked up the second Group 1 win of his career when taking out the $100,000 Westbred Classic for 3YO Colts and Geldings at Gloucester Park on Friday night.

The Always B Miki gelding enjoyed a good run, sitting in the one-one for much of the 2,130m trip before sprinting home the best in the straight to score by just over a length from Lucid Dreams in a career best mile rate of 1:56.2.

It was Tricky Miki’s fifth lifetime win and his second Group 1 victory after having previously won the WA Golden Slipper as a 2-year-old last year.

He has now earned $173,246 in stakes, making him the richest Southern Hemisphere bred son of Always B Miki to date.

Bred by Steve Johnson, Tricky Miki is out of the 11-win Modern Art mare Harriet Elisabeth, who herself finished second in the Group 1 Westbred Classic for 3YO fillies back in 2014.

In other good results down-under for Always B Miki, the Steve and Amanda Telfer trained Southland Oaks winner Aardie’s Express resumed in impressive fashion, taking out a Nevele R Fillies Series Heat at Addington Raceway, downing the 4-time Group 1 winner True Fantasy in the process.
