The brilliant young North American square-gaiter Jujubee was named the 2021 US Trotter of the Year at yesterday’s US Harness Writers Association’s Dan Patch Awards dinner.

The first crop son of Creatine had already been announced as the 2021 US 3YO Trotting Colt of the Year back in December but beat out the likes of Bella Bellini, Venerable and Manchego to take out the overall trotting title at last night’s awards ceremony.

Jujubee had an exceptional 3-year-old season in 2021, winning 14 of his eighteen starts and finishing second in a further three of them.

His major victories included the Breeders Crown Final, the Kentucky Futurity, the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes Championship Final and the Phil Langley Memorial.

In addition, he was the richest male trotter of the year with stakes earnings of $948,791 and became the first 3-year-old trotting colt in history to record two sub 1:50 trotting wins.

A home-bred for Florida’s Jon Erdner, Jujubee is out of the Cantab Hall mare La Cantera.
