Son of Vincent takes out Sires Stakes Heat

Sherlock booked himself a spot in the Group 1 Sires Stakes 2YO Colts and Geldings Final on Cup Day in a fortnight’s time with an impressive heat win at Ashburton yesterday afternoon.

The son of Vincent showed plenty of early speed to lead through the first half before his stablemate Beckham took over.

With Beckham tiring in the straight, Sherlock dashed through on the passing lane and tenaciously held out With Style to score by a neck.

It was the second win in a row for the Mark Purdon and Hayden Cullen trained juvenile and he rated a slick 1:53.7 in the cool, drizzly conditions.

Bred by Spreydon Lodge, Sherlock is out of the American Ideal mare After Party, a full sister to the dam of Republican Party, who won the Listed Sires Stakes Sophomore Classic earlier on the card.
