Amigo Volo, by Father Patrick, continued his terrific end of season form with a world record performance in the $162,350 Matron Stakes for 3YO Trotting Colts and Geldings at Dover Downs on November 12.

The two-time Breeders Crown champion was in stunning form in the last of the Grand Circuit features for 3-year-old trotters this year, with a devastating performance.

Blasting off the gate, the Nifty Norman trained gelding speared to the lead, kept the speed on throughout the middle stages and then simply kicked into overdrive in the final quarter, in the end distancing a classy field by six and a half lengths at the line.

Amigo Volo’s winning time of 1:50 2/5 was a new world record for a 3-year-old trotting gelding on a 1000m track and also tied the jointly held overall 3-year-old record of his sire Father Patrick and the filly Mission Brief.

It was Amigo Volo’s ninth win of the year, taking his seasonal earnings to $939,498 – making him the richest 3-year-old trotter in North America in 2020.

His overall record stands at 15 wins and $1,644,781 in stakes earnings.

A $42,000 Lexington Select Yearling Sale purchase, Amigo Volo is out of the multiple stakes race winning Yankee Glide mare Margarita Momma, the dam now of three $300,000 plus earners, including Amigo Volo’s full brother, the 2018 Kindergarten Classic winner Reign Of Honor.
