Southwind Gendry, by Always B Miki, backed up his Breeders Crown placing from the previous weekend with a dominant 1:50 victory in the $193,000 Matron Stakes for 2YO Pacing Colts and Geldings at Dover Downs on Thursday.

The Ron Burke trained juvenile slotted into fourth spot from his wide barrier draw before rolling forward at the half mile marker to sit parked outside Bayfield Beach.

Rounding the home turn Southwind Gendry kicked clear of the field to score a comfortable one and a half length win.

Southwind Gendry has now won 10 of his 13 starts in his debutant season and with stakes winnings of $583,069 surpasses fellow Always B Miki freshman Perfect Sting to be the richest 2-year-old male pacer in North America in 2020.

A bargain buy at just $30,000 at the 2019 Lexington Select Yearling Sale, Southwind Gendry was bred by Southwind Farms and is out of the stakes winning Cams Card Shark mare Gamblers Passion.

Southwind Gendry’s win, along with Off The Record’s second place finish in the $151,030 Kindergarten Classic Final for 2YO Pacing Fillies, saw first season sire Always B Miki’ progeny earnings soar past the $2 million mark, making him the third leading 2YO Pacing Sire overall for 2020 – behind only Somebeachsomewhere and Captaintreacherous.
